Abstract
On March 21st, the Russian Federation formally welcomed a new entity in its midst, integrating the Crimean Autonomous Republic and detaching it from Ukraine. The ways in which this annexation took place laid bare the Russian leadership’s expansive ambitions in the post-Soviet space and left it open to widespread criticism from most of the international community.
