Abstract
The paper examines the archaeological challenges of the today marginalised terri-tory of Norcia, in Central Italy (southeastern Umbria), with particular focus on the pre-Roman period. Despite notable discoveries since the 18th century, extensive research efforts have been limited, leading to the neglect of the area’s rich cultural heritage. Destruction of archaeological contexts due to agriculture, quarrying, construction, and looting has severely impacted the record. However, legacy data, along with ongoing archaeological and geomorphological studies, provide crucial insights into the region’s ancient past. By integrating these diverse sources, the pa-per seeks to bridge the knowledge gap caused by destruction, offering a methodo-logical approach to reconstructing the pre-Roman landscape of Norcia.
