The paper analyzes Victor Burgin's video installation Parzival as a Monument of Melancholia in dialogue with Wagner's opera Parsifal. The concepts of melancholia, ruin, and monument are used to situate Burgin's work within the context of his work and of contemporary visual culture in general.
