Abstract
Many models of physics beyond the Standard Model predict the existence of heavy stable electrically and coloured charged particles (HSCP). The 14 TeV proton proton collisions produced by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) open the way to the productio n of these particles with masses up to several hundreds of GeV/c2. The CMS and ATLAS detectors are capable of performing a direct observation of these particles by exploiting their unique signature: low veloci ty associated with a high momentum of the orde r a few hundred GeV/c. The perspectives for HSCP searches with integrated luminosities of 100 pb-1 and 1 fb-1 are presented.
