(en) This work aims at provoking thought about the nature of the State as the most comprehensive constitution of Gemeinschaft, which itself appears as a derived-subject, existing with (and as) a particular space, bestowing a sense upon space and taking its own sense from space in the intersubjective constitution of the world which is formed with its own “other-similars”. The State as it is, appears as a spatial derived-subject which can be grasped only in its existence within the intersubjectivity of the world-constitution with and by the continual experience of the existence of others of similar nature. At that point, the geopolitics, as we understand it, appear as a method which goes beyond the materialistic approaches to geography and politics as well as the other approaches which concentrate themselves on the criticism of the latter with objects and tools which do not penetrate into the purely subjective/ intersubjective nature of the State due to the abscence of a philosophical/ ontological view of the said entity and its Lebenswelt. These approaches are equivalent to Husserl’s “psychological” sphere in its fundamental difference from the “phenomenological” sphere. The geopolitics, in our comprehension, should indeed be the approach which describes the existence of this spatial derived-subject in its own intentionality, temporality and historicity in the intersubjective world constituted with its own other-similars. Therefore, our approach makes use of the concepts of phenomenology to deal with this description, to differentiate what is existential in a State from what belongs to the material/ causal world of “natural attitude”, the former providing the framework to the latter, the former, as the primary and spatial contains of the State’s existence as subject in the intersubjectivity of the world, determining the complex manifestation of itself in the secondary contains/ material presence and “international” policies in the reality of the world. Therefore, in our approach, geopolitics should be formulated and performed as the study of the primary contains of the State’s existence, in order to provide the studies of international politics pertaining to what we call the secondary contains with an ontological basis. Our case- study in this work is the United States since its appearance on the world scene, its geopolitical/ existential logic from the very beginning as the framework of its existence in the causal world of international politics, its changes in line with changes of the intersubjectivity of the international system, its intentional life in the totality of its temporal presence.
