- (en) Having clarified the doctrinal and ecclesial basis of the restoration of the deaconate, the article examines how the ministry of deacons meets today the needs of the mission placed in relation to lay ministries. It approaches three issues: the power to serve according the ordination understood as the sacramental authority to act on behalf of another, Christ; the question of deacons and women in the context of the evolution of the assigned roles; the legitimacy of diaconal ministry in the plurality of ministries.
