- (en) Our study investigates two aspects of world competition for talents: mobility of students and its determinants on the one hand, impact of that mobility on that of alumni on the international labor market on the other hand. Therefore we conduct an empirical study based on a survey of alumni of Belgian French speaking universities. Our study first shows that determinants of studies abroad include experiences abroad before entering higher education like stays for learning of languages and repetition abroad of last year of high school, on the one hand, family environment and primarily level of education of the parents, especially of the mother, on the other hand. The study also sets forth that studying abroad increases mobility on the international labor market, in line with literature; we however add a further element: distinguishing between participation to the Erasmus program and to other programs and stays abroad, we observe that all have a similar influence on mobility on the international labor market, so that all could deserve public support.
