The paper discusses a series of intellectual straitjackets that have impeded our reconstructions of political geographies of Bronze Age Crete, advocating a bottom-up approach that leaves sufficient space for temporal and regional variation. It also offers a brief overview of past research and literature on Cretan political geography and pinpoints some remaining issues
