- (en) [Strongyloides stercoralis infection manifested by pica] Pica is an eating disorder characterized by the ingestion of non-food substances, it can occur in patients with iron deficiency anaemia but can also be the result of a psychiatric disorder such as developing troubles, neuropathy. Strongyloides stercoralis infection is a very common disease in the tropical regions, it is rarely found in the developed countries. The clinical presentation is not specific, apart from the larva currens syndrome. Blood examination reveals usually hypereosinophilia and iron deficiency anaemia due to a digestive haemorrhage caused by the presence of the parasite. We report the case of a 13-years-olded girl who presented pica with Strongyloides stercoralis infection and had a favourable evolution under treatment by ivermectine.
