Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present Hegel´s reading of the mystic Jakob Böhme. The paper will proceed in three steps. First, I will try to show how Hegel identifies mysticism, and more specifically, the type of mysticism that Böhme represents as a modern phenomenon. Second, I will present the way in which Hegel associates mysticism with a particular linguistic practice. I will show how Hegel sees in Böhme not a doctrine but a kind of language that involves the dissolution of fixed significations. Finally, and in relation to this type of linguistic practice that Hegel identifies in Böhme, I will explore how Hegel understands the relationship between mysticism and speculative philosophy. In this regard, I will propose the hypothesis that, according to Hegel, mysticism is the embodiment of a movement of modernity without reconciliation.
