Abstract
As demonstrated by the successive works of G. Finkielsztejn and C. Doyen, Antiochos IV introduced a mina of 128 Attic drachmas, or 556.8 grams, in the Southern Levant. Given that a new metrological system was adopted in the region throughout most of the second century, it is possible, to some extent, to speak of standardisation. However, the material aspect of this standardisation has yet to be thoroughly examined. Thus, the present study aims to analyse Seleucid weights from the southern Levant as manufactured objects, intentionally setting aside the issue of metrology.
