- Abstract
- (en) The cemetery is located in Oreye (Liège), on a slight slope between the rivers Geer and Yerne. It settles next to the ruins of a roman villa, inhabited from the Ist century to the late IVth or even the early Vth century. It is located about 1,5 kilometres east of the roman road joining Bavay and Cologne and around ten kilometres from Tongres. Twenty-five graves have been excavated so far. The Merovigian community buried its deads during about two or three generations between ca 600 and 675 AD. Despite they were obviously robbed, the remaining grave goods still illustrate how wealthy they were once, as shown by the gold tremissis of the Visigothic king, Reccared Ist, the silver and brass damascened-inlay belt plates and buckles, or the burial gifts from the man grave 1.
